About Me
Who I Am
Welcome! This section is my chance to offer a bit of context—who I am and why True Grit Fit exists. You’ll find stories of racing, reflections on endurance, and the journey that led me to build a structured, sustainable approach to fitness. I’m here to share the path I’ve carved out, not through grand transformations or dramatic comeback stories, but through steady commitment, curiosity, and a balance of ambition with practicality. If you’re looking for a regular person’s take on making fitness a lifelong pursuit amidst life’s many roles and responsibilities, then read on.

About Me: Between Family, Fitness, and a Demanding Career
At 45, I’ve spent the last 12 years deeply committed to training. From Ironman triathlons to marathons and grueling mountain runs, I’ve learned that fitness isn’t just a goal—it’s a cornerstone of life. Alongside this journey, I’m also a husband and father to three kids, including a six-year-old who keeps me on my toes, and the caretaker of a loyal dog. My professional life as an IT Director in a high-demand industry spans over 25 years, with a background in IT, economics, and statistics, topped off with an MBA in IT. I’m deeply invested in modern management methods and apply this structured, strategic thinking to my fitness approach.
The Importance of Balance: Fitness, Family, and Lifelong Learning
Balancing the demands of family, work, and personal health isn’t easy. Between parenting, managing a team, and maintaining a high level of physical activity, I strive for structure and efficiency in everything I do. For me, physical development is both a responsibility and a privilege—part of what it means to live a fulfilling, balanced life as a mature adult. Physical fitness is a space where I find clarity and discipline, a journey that complements the mental and professional growth I value.
Through the years, I’ve raced countless times across all kinds of distances, from triathlons to mountain runs, and the perspective I bring here is grounded in these experiences. My drive has always been to maintain not only physical performance but mental resilience. It’s an ethos I believe deeply in and hope to share with others, especially as I continue to explore and adapt my training approach over time.
Inspiration and Growth Through Continuous Learning
Beyond fitness, learning is at the heart of everything I do. I read about 50 books a year, spanning topics from fitness science and data-driven performance strategies to human physiology and nutrition. I stay engaged in developments in data science, wearable technology, and advancements in health, which I incorporate into my training philosophy. This continuous education helps me stay ahead, informed, and innovative, and it shapes the content and ideas I bring to True Grit Fit.
From Past Challenges to Present Purpose
My journey hasn’t been without challenges. I’ve faced setbacks and endured periods of physical strain, juggling tough work environments, personal struggles, and, at times, destructive habits. I’ve been through those moments of losing direction, only to reemerge with a stronger foundation. I’ve been at points where fitness was set aside or completely absent. Years ago, I worked through a phase where unhealthy habits had taken over, weighing me down in both mind and body. But fitness eventually brought me back, becoming a source of stability and strength.
What I’m building here isn’t a “comeback story” but a sustainable, practical approach to fitness that works amidst life’s many demands and stages. My life now is about sustaining, adapting, and constantly improving—not for the sake of competition with others, but for the lifelong pursuit of health, clarity, and strength.
True Grit Fit: A Space for Real-Life Fitness, Not Overhyped Transformation
True Grit Fit is not about grandiose transformations or overcoming impossible odds; it’s about the grit to keep going, to improve steadily, and to adapt when necessary. I don’t intend to add to the dramatic narratives of battling oneself or fighting demons. Those chapters are behind me. Today, my focus is on creating a fitness path that’s sustainable, manageable, and deeply fulfilling.
This blog reflects that—steady progress, grounded advice, and a long-term view on health. Here, you’ll find thoughts and strategies for achieving balance and stability in fitness, career, and personal growth. True Grit Fit is for those who, like me, are navigating a world of responsibility, seeking to make fitness a part of a balanced, intentional life.
