Rain [day#24]

Woke up a bit later today, but still got the planned run done. I’m keeping things light this week – it’s a feel-out phase.

I ran 6 kilometers with the dog. It was pouring hard this morning, but here’s the thing: almost every race rulebook starts by saying “the event will take place no matter the weather”. And if you’re serious about training, weather just isn’t a valid excuse.

I won’t go down the cliché path of “no bad weather, only bad clothing” – but really, I live in a place where I go through every kind of weather over the year. Snow, rain, strong wind, running in the dark, freezing cold, scorching sun. And honestly, that’s one of the coolest parts of this whole journey. I love trail and outdoor running – the experience is just fantastic.

That later wake-up wasn’t random. I’m starting a nearly two-week break, and it’s all because of something big happening for my wife. I’ll write more about it tomorrow.

For now, I’m staying home with the kids and the dog. I’ll try to handle some work hybrid-style, but I’m not expecting it to go perfectly. At least I’ll get some breathing room from work duties – and hopefully, the company I work for will manage just fine. We’ve got this.

What’s on my mind most is our youngest son – it’s his first long stretch without mom. And for her, it’s the first true break after six years of full-time care. A well-deserved chance to focus on herself. Fingers crossed. More on that tomorrow.
