Treadmill Fartlek [day#31]
I honestly can’t remember the last time I ran on a treadmill. Must’ve been at least six months ago. But today there was no other option—and after taking a rest day yesterday and skipping the gym, I really wanted to at least get the run done. Without volume, there’s no serious prep for a race.
I approached it like handling a porcupine—reluctantly. It turned into a kind of fartlek session, sometimes 4 x 800 m intervals with 200 m walking breaks. Not exactly structured, but it worked. And most importantly—there were some positives. My heart rate is finally letting me cruise below 5:00/km in Zone 1, which means the base I’ve been building through those slow and boring jogs is quietly showing up.
In 3–4 weeks, I’ll test what kind of pace I can push from that base, but already it looks like 4:45/km is doable. That gives me space to start programming some fun workouts.
Pro tip: Sometimes it’s worth letting go of perfection and just moving—your body adapts even when things aren’t textbook.
